The Dominican Republic is two-thirds the island of Hispaniola which is shared with Haiti. The Dominican republic is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. (Our hotel on Bavaro Beach was on the Atlantic and one of our scuba trips in La Romana/Catalina Island was on the Caribbean)
This year Ron and I stayed at The Majestic Elegance http://www.majestic-resorts.com/ which didn't let us down! The all-inclusive resort was pretty new and super modern.

Along with laying on the beach, hanging at the pool and a few nights at the discotheque, we squeezed in 5 dive trips. We used the company http://www.scubaquatic.com/html/default.aspx which we found during a walk on the beach one day. We took a day trip to dive at Catalina Island like we did last summer and also did three other dives off a little boat on Bavaro beach.
Likes:
- The back roll entry off the small boat
- Cool sea urchins you can stick to your hand
- HUGE Angel fish
- The Astron shipwreck that we dove through. A-maz-ing.
- Tons of fish and coral everywhere!
Dislikes:
- After the recent tropical storm, choppy water and strong currents were scary!
- Hmm...that's all we disliked! =)
We ended up with the divemaster Rolf from the Netherlands on every dive. He even emailed us some fun pictures he took with his digital camera. Ron and I need to get an underwater case for our camera... these pictures rock!
| Look at my dinky disposable underwater camera.. Haha. |
Now, it's back to reality... back to work.... where should we go next year? Belize? Hawaii?
